St Olaf’s National School hosted a ‘Family Fun Day’ which took place Sunday 17th June with an added bonus of a beautiful day. The main features was the Four Bungee Trampolines, Wooly Wards Farm and Fairground games.
There was much excitement in the build up to the big day, with all the children and parents getting behind the schools requests for donations.
And thanks to their kind generosity, the Fun Day Team were able to organize a fun-filled day of entertainment and activities for all to enjoy.
There was plenty of other families from around the area that came and they were all very welcome. We hope they enjoyed as much as we did.
Wooly Wards Farm was a real hit with young and old alike, especially the Llama! A big thank you to Balally Residents Association for sponsoring Wooly Wards Farm.
There was also four bungee trampolines for all age groups to enjoy, though no adults decided to give it a try!!!
There were a variety of stalls offering an array of things to buy including books, bottle Stall, crafts, face painting & tattoos.
There was tea, coffee and cakes on sale beside the toddler zone, so parents could take a break and have a much needed rest. We had a Family Wish Tree and a Lego stand too.
There was wide selection of shows took place in the hall from all the different after school clubs, such as Irish drama, Dancing, Ukuleles and because of the lovey day Balally Karate Club put on a demonstration outside on the school grounds
A BBQ was available in the yard, where you could find our Principal Mr. Murphy cooking the burgers and Hotdogs, along with a Tuck Shop and we even had a stall selling Ice pops, perfect for the very warm weather that day
Many thanks to all the volunteers (90 people made this possible) that helped make the day such a success, from the Teachers, SNA’s, Parents’, 6th Class children, and of course Mr Murphy for his BBQ skills and our Super Secretary Karen de Veale for all their help.
A huge thank you to Derek Monson and Niall Carey for building our fairground games they worked tirelessly to have them ready on time.
Our Fairground Games were Tip the Can, Toilet Paper Toss, Race a Boat, Hook a Duck, Bean Bag Challenge, Balloon Pop and the firm favourite - Hoop a Jar. There was also a Treasure Hunt, Races, Bungee Trampoline and a Super Raffle.
The Treasure Hunt was also a great success with all the kids. It was designed to suit all ages with stamps at each stand for the little ones to collect and word clues for the bigger ones to figure out.
The HOOP A JAR was never quiet, till the last jar was won. Thanks again to everyone who brought in jars.
And where would we be without Dave Kinsella who supplied the music and was MC for the day. We would be lost without him. Thank you Dave yet again for making another event very special.
The day finished off with a TUG OF WAR. The roars and cheers could be heard for miles. Not everyone was a winner, but I think we can safely say that everyone had a super time and went away happy and content.
A big thank you goes to Nikki Murphy & Sylvia Jay-Carey who were the team leaders and with their hard working and trusty back up team Helen Morelli, Annie Colleran, Elaine Glynn and Suzanne O Grady, who pulled this large event together.
